Community Foundation of PEI Appoints Katie Baker as Executive Director
The Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce the appointment of Katie Baker as its new Executive Director.
Originally from Prince Edward Island, Katie returned to the Island in 2021 after 17 years in Vancouver. She brings a broad range of experience in organizational leadership, fund development, strategic planning, community engagement and partnership development across the public and private sectors, government, and community organizations.
“We are delighted to welcome Katie to the Community Foundation of PEI,” said Alfred Arsenault, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Katie brings a unique combination of Island roots, broad experience, strong community relationships, and a genuine commitment to helping organizations and communities achieve their goals. We believe this combination will serve the Foundation and the Island extremely well as we look to the future.”
Katie is a former national athlete and captain of Canada’s national women’s field hockey team. Most recently, she served as Director of Operations at SRL Solutions, an Island consulting firm.
“I am incredibly excited to take on this role and bring my experience to the Foundation, while listening and learning from the donors, fundholders, community organizations, and partners who are already doing so much to make a difference across the Island. It truly is a hidden gem. The Foundation helps strengthen communities from tip to tip, and it is a focus that is particularly meaningful to me.”
“Katie understands that strong communities are built through relationships,” said Arsenault. “That approach aligns extremely well with the Foundation’s role as a connector, working with donors, fundholders, nonprofit organizations, community leaders and others to turn generosity into meaningful and lasting impact.”
As Executive Director, Katie will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Foundation, with a particular focus on fund development, donor relations, governance support, and external engagement. She will work closely with the Board of Directors and the Foundation team to advance its strategic priorities and strengthen the Foundation’s role as a trusted community partner and convener.
Katie joins the Foundation at a time of significant strength and opportunity. The Community Foundation of PEI now manages more than 130 endowment funds with assets valued at approximately $22 million and hosts 15 funds on behalf of other organizations. In 2025, the Foundation also administered 195 flow-through funds. Together with the extraordinary generosity of donors across Prince Edward Island, this work enabled a record $4.6 million to be distributed in scholarships and community grants during the year.
This growing platform provides the Foundation with an opportunity to deepen its impact across Prince Edward Island, connecting more donors with the causes they care about, strengthening charitable organizations and communities, and building enduring resources that will benefit Islanders for generations to come.
These generate ongoing support through grants and scholarships, while also working with donors, fundholders, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to address community needs and create opportunities for Islanders today and for future generations.
“I’m looking forward to meeting more of the people who make up the Foundation’s community and hearing what matters most to them,” said Katie. “There is a strong foundation to build on, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together.”
Katie has assumed the position of Executive Director effective September 28, 2026
