President.s Message

I would like to acknowledge especially, the personal and financial support of Directors; first awards from The Dr. Donald K. Taylor Fund and The PEI Association of Architects Scholarship Funds; the increase in donations to Island arts and cultural organizations from US citizens; a positive mid term review of the Arts & Heritage Stabilization Program; a return of 8.3% for our funds under management, and the establishment of 2 new funds.

During the past three years our funds under administration have grown from $381,299.26 at the end of 2002 to $626,376.02 on December 31, 2005. During the same period, our return on investment has been 11.05%, 7.7% and 8.3% respectively.

Milestones
  • The first award from the Dr. Donald K. Taylor Memorial Fund presented to Dr. Marlene Bryenton
  • Thea Campbell awarded first scholarship from the PEI Architects Association Fund.
  • Part of C. Gorden Lord Scholarship Trust administered by CFPEI.
  • Local Committee established in support of the Souris Community Fund.
  • CFPEI provided US receipts to thirteen US donors who contributed $25,000(US) to five Island cultural organizations.
  • New disbursement policy allows us to make decisions earlier in the year thereby making grants earlier.
  • J. Melville Campbell Fund was established by his widow, Mary Campbell and family in support of projects for Prince Edward Island youth
  • The optimism with which we welcome 2006.

Island Arts & Heritage Stabilization Program



In May 2004, under an agreement with Department of Canadian Heritage and the PEI Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, and with significant funding from the above and the Samuel and Sadye Bronfman Family Foundation, CFPEI launched the Island Arts and Heritage Stabilization Program. The sole purpose of the Program, IAHSP, is to build stronger and more viable organizations in the non-profit arts and heritage community of Prince Edward Island with the goal of long term viability. The program is focused on:
  • Strengthening board governance for better monitoring and management of operations;
  • Promotion of strategic planning for long term success;
  • Improvement of financial management to ensure better fiscal planning;
  • Development of Marketing Plan;
  • Upgrading of administrative operations, equipment, resources and performance.
