New Scholarships for Resident Care Worker Students

The Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce the second round of applications for Rear Admiral Louise C. and Mr. James E. Wilmot Scholarship fund. In January 2012, five (5) deserving students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship towards their education in the Resident Care Worker Program at Holland College- Souris Center.

This scholarship fund was established in 2010 by Rear Admiral Louise C. and Mr. James E. Wilmot, who are summer residents of Prince Edward Island, to support health education in Eastern PEI. The first recipients to receive this scholarship included Donna Taylor, Lorraine Jenkins, Harmony Ching and Tania Peters. This scholarship provides much needed financial assistance to students who wish to enter into the health field. This is expressed by Tania Peters who said "The award helped me in a great way. It helped me to pay for things I needed for school, to pay some bills and to get me through the hard times. It helped me reach my goal of working with the elderly in a long term care facility".

The first Rear Admiral Louise C. and Mr. James E. Wilmot scholarships were established in 2008 which provided assistance to students working towards a Bachelor of Nursing degree at a Canadian University. These scholarships were awarded to students who have committed to work at the Souris Hospital for one year post graduation. The introduction of this scholarship fund sparked the interest of the Souris Hospital Foundation, and they agreed to match the scholarship. Through this scholarship program, three students were provided with financial assistance. For more information, please contact the Community Foundation at cfpei@pei.aibn.com or (902)892-3440.
