Proceeds from the 2009 sale of a two room school house and a community history published in 1993 will be used to provide ongoing funding for
a number of community organizations.
The North Tryon Women's Institute, at a recent meeting, created "The North Tryon Women's Institute Legacy Fund" with the Community Foundation
of Prince Edward Island to support community projects that have been "near and dear" to the Women.s Institute through the years - education,
health and environment.
Income from the North Tryon Women's Institute Legacy Fund will be used to make annual grants to the Englewood School for projects in their
music and/or library programs, the Prince County Hospital paediatric wing, and the Tryon River Watershed Association for projects related to
the enhancement of the Tryon River watershed in North Tryon.
The Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island is pleased to support community organizations in improving their communities. In the last
few years the CFPEI has played an increasingly active role in helping individuals and organizations design legacy funds to support their
local activities.
For information about the Fund, readers should contact the Foundation at 892-3440.
Community Mourns Loss of Great Leader
Don Anderson
Members of the Community Foundation were saddened to hear of the passing of Don Anderson.
Don was a dedicated community leader and was instrumental in the growth and development of the potato industry in Prince Edward Island.
Don also served as a member of the Community Foundation. Having served on the Board, his wisdom and encouragement will be long lived within
our organization. Don.s passion will be missed in communities throughout PEI.
The Foundation expresses condolences to Don's wife Kathleen, daughters Sharon, Susan and Sally and his son Scott for their loss.
3rd Annual Summer Gala Fundraising Dinner
CFPEI is happy to announce that our annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction will once again be held at the Roma National Historic Site in
Brudenell, July30th.
This year's event will showcase live entertainment from the Singing Strings. Thanks to all our directors, volunteers, and friends of CFPEI
for their continued support, as well as the gracious volunteers at Roma. Last year was a sell out event so be sure to get your tickets early
to avoid disappointment. CFPEI looks forward to seeing you in Brudenell for what will surely be another entertaining evening of dining and
fellowship.
Cemetery Trustees Receive Update
Trustees of Island cemeteries gathered in Charlottetown for an update on the role of a public trustee and the PEI Cemeteries Act.
The workshop, organized by the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island, was directed primarily towards the interests of cemeteries with
funds held by the Foundation.
A discussion on the role of public trustees and the PEI Cemeteries Act was led by Katharine Tummon, Director of Consumer, Corporate and
Insurance Services, Office of the Attorney General. Norman Carruthers, Past President of the Foundation provided an overview of the work of
Foundation activities and John Robinson, President, presented an overview of the Foundation's Statement of Investment Policies and Guidelines
as an example of the role of a prudent investor.
Strategic Planning Workshop
In January, members of the CFPEI Board focused on the next phase of development during a workshop facilitated by the vice president of Future
Learning, Terry Allen and Lori Macdonald.
Key issues were identified, goals were revisited, and plans were made for strengthening the foundation's relationship with the community of
PEI Participants were intrigued to learn of the application of new technologies, especially in the field of communications, even to small
organizations.
The Dr. Gerry Barrett/DAPEI Legacy Fund
CFPEI is honoured to receive The Dr. Gerry Barrett/DAPEI Legacy Fund. The fund was established 10 years ago to honour Dr. Barrett's memory.
He practised on PEI from 1952 - 1992 and was actively involved with the DAPEI where he served as the secretary/registrar.
The fund served two purposes: assisting Island students who wished to pursue a career in dentistry and supporting children who were in need
of dental care but could not afford it. Since the establishment of the fund, many children have received orthodontic care as a result.
Members of the Dental Association of PEI and their families emphasize the importance of education and encourage its members to contribute to
this Fund or to remember friends and family through the establishment of other funds. It is hoped that through an increased awareness the
fund will grow.

Donations can be made to The Living Trust Fund in Memory of a loved one or to pay tribute to individuals and events such as a birthday,

public spaces on PEI.

address below. Any information on
our activities or to discuss charitable giving that continues in perpetuity, feel free to drop in to our office or phone us at 892-3440.
