Guidelines for Undesignated Grants
(Approved June 2008)
Grants are made available to:
- increase the capacities of organizations, communities and individuals to respond to challenges and opportunities
- develop local leadership, promote self-reliance, emphasize prevention, and mobilize civic participation and resources
- improve effectiveness in the use of the applicants and the community's resources
- encourage and sustain collaboration between citizens and organizations
- strengthen the financial stability and management capacity of voluntary sector organizations
Criteria for Decision Making
Grants are awarded for definite purposes and for projects covering a
specific period of time. In considering any project, the Foundation will
take into account the extent to which a project:
- Addresses, issues, opportunities, needs and problems
- demonstrates inclusiveness and respect for cultural diversity
- reflects a well governed and well-managed sponsoring organization
- builds partnerships
- promotes networks and sharing
- contributes to community building
- is innovative
- is within the capacity of the organization

- is timely
- does not duplicate an existing service or, if so, demonstrates that duplication is warranted
- demonstrates a reasonable chance of support from other funding sources
- operates under a committed volunteer Board
- is based in Prince Edward Island
- is of benefit to residents of Prince Edward Island
- does not duplicate existing funding
Funding Restrictions
The Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island does not consider funding requests for:
- debt retirement
- deficit reduction
- purchase of computer equipment for offices and administration
- sports and recreation, team or club sponsorships
- individuals
- core operating expenses
- financial support for activities within a single political or religious tradition
- capital and endowment campaigns
- fund-raising activities
- retroactive expenses
- 100% of the funding of a project
- organizations which are totally government funded
