US Citizens. Reception
An overflow crowd of nearly 200 people gathered at the Culinary Institute of Canada on July 4 to mark, with US friends, the US Independence day. Most were there for the first time (this was the third hosted by CFPEI) but many attended all three. A quick poll showed visitors came from New York, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, New Mexico, Iowa, Georgia, Texas and Missouri - plus US citizen.s resident in Prince Edward Island Written comments included thanks for the hospitality and the superb food; visitors would have liked more opportunities to mix and mingle with fellow Americans. |
Fundraising DinnerAlthough the Editor was out of Province at the time, by all reports, our first-ever fund raising dinner was both sold out and a rousing success. The dinner was held at the Roma Historic site in Brudenell on August 20. The weather cooperated with the planners, servers and entertainers were in period costume and the meal, in the words of one diner, "was gourmet and fabulous". Our thanks to all who contributed to its success. Summer IslandersSummer Islanders activities include both a lecture series and a summer social. All lectures were held at the Victoria Playhouse on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm. The lectures were both entertaining and informative and featured well-known Islanders prominent in their respective fields. As a result, questions and discussion following presentations had to be curtailed so the Playhouse could prepare for evening plays. Guests at the second annual summer social was held at HMSC Charlottetown on the waterfront were treated to a spectacular view, good food, entertainment and time to socialize. |
