North Yorke River Road Site DesignatedThe North Yorke River Road entrance to the Confederation Trail has been designated by the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island (CFPEI) and the Government of PEI as a Living Trust site. As a result, individuals and organizations wanting to support the planting of trees, remember friends and colleague or mark a milestone in the life of a person or an organization can later check on growth while strolling the Trail. Living Memorials are more than just a tribute; living memorials enhance and beautify our environment, provide shelter for wild life, reduce erosion and improve the quality of the air we breathe. Grants may be made for the enhancement of any public space; however, the initial focus will be on trail entrances. Last year, a cluster of Island oaks was planted on each side of the entrance to the Confederation Trail to remember and honour the life of Dr. Charles Keuper, a physician who came to PEI in 1979 after his retirement and worked tirelessly to protect and enhance the Island.s natural beauty. For 2008, the Foundation will plant trees at the North Yorke River road site; eventually, sites will be designated across the Island. Persons wishing to support the planting of trees are invited to make a contribution to the fund either at the Foundation office or through the website www.cfpei.ca Planting will be undertaken in late May. |
