Don Glendenning presents a cheque to Major Barrow of the Salvation Army on behalf of an American Summer Islander

An American Summer Islander has shown both concern and generosity by making a donation to help Islanders struggling with high heating bills. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, made a donation in the amount of $10,000 to the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island (CFPEI) with the request that the money be given immediately to the Salvation Army home heating fuel fund. The Foundation can issue charitable receipts for Income Tax purposes in the US as well as in Canada.

The donor became aware of the need through the article in the Guardian on Saturday, March 28. On Sunday the Donor phoned Don Glendenning, a Foundation Director, and on Monday he delivered the cheque to Major Barrow of the Salvation Army.

The Foundation News is an informal newsletter edited and published electronically by, and at the whim of, Don Glendenning. Think of it as a letter from a friend. Feel free to send it to a friend or otherwise let me know that you want to be on the mailing list. Address: don@glendenning.net the foundation email address is foundation@cfpei.ca.
Major Barrow, thanked the donor, "a Good Samaritan" he said and noted that

"The cost of staying warm has been a major hardship this winter and winter is not over yet; many Islanders will be left with oil bills to pay well into summer".

CFPEI is a public foundation specializing in the design of endowments that reflect donor interests. It also administers endowments on behalf of individuals and organizations. Persons interested in helping to ease the home heating burden, or to support other worthy causes, may do so through the Foundation (892-3440)

A new arrival

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Claire Christina, daughter of Randy and Marla (MacDonald) Gidney. Readers familiar with the Foundation will know that Marla has been a long time volunteer and Office Administrator. Congratulations.

Presentation in Georgetown

CFPEI had an opportunity to try out a PowerPoint presentation in Georgetown recently. Unfortunately, the night chosen was in conflict with another meeting so numbers were lower than anticipated. A presentation to the Mayor and Council is scheduled for later in April.
