Souris Accepts ChallengeThe Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island issued a challenge to the people of Souris; Grow the Souris Fund by $5,000 and the Foundation will make a grant of $1,000 to a charitable organization or organizations in the Souris area. This offer is valid annually for five years, 2007 to 2011.An endowment for the benefit of people in the Souris area already exists. The Fund, made possible by a contribution from an anonymous donor, has a Fair Market Value of $17,500 and is invested as part of the Foundations portfolio. Earnings may be used for grants in support of any charitable activity in the Souris area. The Souris Fund is one of thirty-five endowments administered by the Foundation for the benefit of Islanders. Grant announcedThe Foundation also announced a grant of $500 from the Souris Fund to the Souris High School for the purchase of band instruments.Local Committee formedDecisions about the Souris Fund can benefit from input from the community. Committee was formed to advise the Foundation on matters related to the
Souris Fund and to lead the challenge. Committee members are Margaret
Ching, Thelma MacDonald, Carol Fraser and Joanne Chisholm.
