An Open Letter to Trustees
So you.ve just been elected and attended your first meeting. Or maybe you
are an old hand. And you have this trust that brings a bit of income each
year. In fact, you depend on it for much of your operating dollars.
You are gad to have it but looking after it is a bit of a nuisance. Your
banker has been good to you but interest rates are low. Are there other
options?
Why not do what other trustees are doing. Many are finding a way to
remove the hassle and to increase their returns. They let the Community
Foundation of Prince Edward Island administer their trusts. The
Foundation, also a charitable organization, invests in a mixture of funds,
provides regular reports and can return the funds on short notice.
The graph below shows the rate of return on investments administered by
the Community Foundation over the last four years.
If you had placed your $40,000 for administration by the Community
Foundation on January 1, 2003, it would have grown as follows:
