HRH Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Legacy Fund
Press Release - July 6, 2011
HRH Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Legacy Fund
In recognition of Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding and to celebrate their
visit to Prince Edward Island, it is the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island's distinct honor and
pleasure to announce the Foundation's newest legacy fund - the HRH Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Legacy
Fund. The Fund will provide an annual scholarship to a PEI student attending a PEI post-secondary
institution. Also, the fund will provide grants to non-profit organizations on Prince Edward Island that
embody the causes of which the Royal Couple are patrons, such as: helping young people in society; raising
awareness and support for servicemen and women; and developing sustainable models of living in the light of
climate change and dwindling natural resources.
In setting up the fund, the province of Prince Edward Island has made an initial contribution of $25,000,
and this amount has been matched by a $25,000 contribution from Mary Mills Dunea, an ardent follower of the
Royal Family, a long time supporter of the Community Foundation, and one of PEI's 'summer Islanders'.
When asked about her thoughts regarding the Royal Family, and her contribution to the Duke and Duchess of
Cambridge Legacy Fund, she commented "Their Royal Highnesses have made clear their deep interest in
Canada's young people and in education," she said. "The scholarship gift honors both these interests, and
commemorates their wonderful visit to Prince Edward Island."
Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Legacy Fund can do so by going to
the Community Foundation of PEI website - www.cfpei.ca - and click on the 'Donate Now' icon at the bottom of
the page. Or contact the Foundation directly by phoning the office at (902) 892-3440 or mailing a cheque to
the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island, 119 Queen Street, Charlottetown, PEI C1A 4B3. A charitable
tax receipt will be issued for all donations.
