When a prospective donor wishes to establish an endowment or make a donation to a community cause or project, Fund Development Committee members and Foundation staff will take the donor through the following steps.
- Defining your Charitable Objectives and Goals
What are your values? How can you support them?
Do you wish to involve the next generation of your family?
Would you like your fund to benefit several charitable organizations?
Or will you focus on a specific philanthropic interest? (i.e. scholarship, arts, environment)
- Choosing the most appropriate funds

Determine the intervals at which you would like to contribute
Note:Donors to CFPEI have numerous options for structuring their gifts; these might range from outright contributions to planned giving vehicles, each of which meet different needs and may offer tax advantages. Some of the options include:
Gifts Made Through Trusts
Gifts Made Through Wills
Gifts of Cash or Appreciated Securities
Gifts of Life Insurance
Gifts of Other Property
- Naming the Fund
Funds can be named for the donor or donor's family
A legacy fund in memory of someone
An anonymous fund - or a name that reflects the donor's purposes
- Preparing and Signing the Fund Agreement
Once all the above details are discussed and fully agreed upon, CFPEI staff will prepare a written agreement containing all important details and instructions for final donor review and signature. CFPEI staff will ensure that the donor receives regular fund updates which will allow the donor to track the progress of the fund and the grants made from it.
