Rear Admiral Louise C. and Mr. James E. Wilmot Scholarship
Background:
Rear Admiral Louise C and James E Wilmot are citizens of the USA and
long-time summer residents of Fairfield, Prince Edward Island. Wishing to
contribute to the quality of life in their chosen community, and with a
particular interest health care, the Louise and James Wilmot established a
scholarship for nurses in their area.
Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to improve health care in the Souris area
through the provision of financial assistance to nurses in training on
condition that, after completing their training and obtaining
certification, they accept employment in the Souris Hospital for a period
equal to the period covered by the scholarship.
The scholarship is intended for students who:
- Are in good standing in a program leading to a Bachelor of Nursing degree at a Canadian university.
- Present a signed commitment to work at the Souris Hospital following their graduation.
- Agree to repay the Foundation should the student, for any reason, sever employment with the Souris Hospital prior to completing their work commitment.
Students are eligible for one or the other of the following options but not both:
- Students who have committed to work at the Souris Hospital for one year post graduation will be eligible for a maximum of $2,000 ($1,000 from the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island and $1,000 from the Eastern Kings Health Foundation Inc.). Scholarships to be paid to the student and educational institution in January of their third or fourth year of the university program.
- Students who have committed to work at the Souris Hospital for two consecutive years post graduation will be eligible for a maximum of $4,000 to be paid in the following manner: $2,000 to be paid in January of their third year in the program and $2,000 to be paid in January of the fourth year of their university program.
